What is heat?

The transfer of thermal energy from a warmer object to a cooler object.

What are the three methods of heat transfer?

Conduction, convection, and radiation.

Define conduction.

The transfer of heat through direct contact between particles of a substance.

What is convection?

The transfer of heat through the movement of fluids (liquids or gases).

Explain radiation.

The transfer of heat through electromagnetic waves.

What is thermal equilibrium?

When two objects are at the same temperature and no heat flows between them.

What is specific heat capacity?

The amount of heat energy required to raise the temperature of a substance by 1 degree Celsius.

What is the formula for calculating heat transfer?

Q = mcΔT

What is an insulator?

A material that does not easily allow heat to flow through it.

What is a conductor?

A material that allows heat to flow through it easily.

What is a heat sink?

A device or substance that absorbs and dissipates excess heat.

What are examples of good conductors?

Metals such as copper and aluminum.

What are examples of good insulators?

Materials like wood, rubber, and plastic.

How does heat affect the particles in a substance?

Heat energy causes particles to move faster and increases their kinetic energy.

What is the zeroth law of thermodynamics?

If two objects are in thermal equilibrium with a third object, they are also in thermal equilibrium with each other.
