What is asexual reproduction?

A type of reproduction in which a single organism produces offspring that are genetically identical to itself.

What is sexual reproduction?

A type of reproduction that involves the fusion of gametes from two parents, resulting in offspring with genetic variation.

Name two methods of asexual reproduction.

Binary fission and budding.

What is binary fission?

A method of asexual reproduction in which a single cell divides into two identical daughter cells.

What is budding?

A method of asexual reproduction in which a new organism grows out of a small projection on the parent organism.

What are gametes?

Reproductive cells (sperm and egg) that fuse during sexual reproduction to form a new organism.

What is fertilization?

The fusion of male and female gametes to form a zygote during sexual reproduction.

What is mitosis?

The process of cell division that produces two daughter cells with the same genetic material as the parent cell.

What is meiosis?

The process of cell division that produces gametes with half the number of chromosomes as the parent cell.

What is fragmentation?

A type of asexual reproduction in which an organism is divided into two or more fragments that can grow into new individuals.

What is regeneration?

The ability of an organism to regrow lost or damaged body parts.

What is parthenogenesis?

A form of asexual reproduction in which an unfertilized egg develops into a new individual.

What is hermaphroditism?

The condition of having both male and female reproductive organs, allowing an organism to produce both sperm and eggs.

What are the advantages of sexual reproduction?

Increased genetic diversity and adaptation to changing environments.

What are the advantages of asexual reproduction?

Faster reproduction and efficient use of resources.

What are the disadvantages of sexual reproduction?

The need for two parents and the risk of producing less offspring.
