Click on the flashcard to see the answer

What is the first law of motion?

An object at rest tends to stay at rest, and an object in motion tends to stay in motion with the same speed and in the same direction, unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.

What is the second law of motion?

The force acting on an object is equal to the mass of the object multiplied by its acceleration.

What is the third law of motion?

For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.

What is inertia?

The tendency of an object to resist changes in its motion.

What is the formula for force?

Force = mass x acceleration

What is the unit of force in the International System of Units (SI)?

The unit of force in SI is the newton (N).

What is the net force of an object at rest?

The net force on an object at rest is zero.

What is the net force of an object in equilibrium?

The net force on an object in equilibrium is zero.

What is the relationship between force, mass, and acceleration?

The force applied to an object is directly proportional to its mass and acceleration.

What is the action-reaction pair in walking?

The action is the foot pushing on the ground, and the reaction is the ground pushing back on the foot.

What is the action-reaction pair when a car accelerates forward?

The action is the tires pushing backward on the road, and the reaction is the road pushing forward on the tires.

What is the action-reaction pair when a balloon is inflated?

The action is the person blowing into the balloon, and the reaction is the balloon expanding.

What happens to the acceleration of an object when the force applied to it is increased?

The acceleration of an object increases when the force applied to it is increased.

What happens to the acceleration of an object when its mass is increased?

The acceleration of an object decreases when its mass is increased.

What is the weight of an object on Earth?

The weight of an object on Earth is equal to its mass multiplied by the gravitational acceleration (approximately 9.8 m/s^2).
