What is respiration?

Respiration is the process of inhaling oxygen and exhaling carbon dioxide.

Name the parts of respiratory system.

The parts of respiratory system are nostrils, nasal cavity, trachea, bronchi, lungs and diaphragm.

What is the function of nostrils?

Nostrils are the openings through which air enters the respiratory system. They moisten and warm the air.

What is the function of diaphragm?

Diaphragm is a muscle that contracts and relaxes to help the lungs inhale and exhale air.

What happens during inhalation?

During inhalation, the diaphragm contracts and moves downwards, while the volume of lungs increases, which leads to the intake of air.

What happens during exhalation?

During exhalation, the diaphragm relaxes and moves upwards, while the volume of lungs decreases, which leads to the expulsion of air.

What are the waste products of respiration?

The waste products of respiration are carbon dioxide and water vapor.

What is the role of red blood cells in respiration?

Red blood cells transport oxygen from lungs to body tissues and also carry carbon dioxide from body tissues to lungs for exhaling.

What is asthma?

Asthma is a respiratory disorder in which the airways become narrow and inflamed, making breathing difficult.

How does smoking affect the respiratory system?

Smoking damages the respiratory system by causing inflammation, narrowing of airways and accumulation of tar in the lungs.

What is the main function of respiratory system?

The main function of respiratory system is to provide oxygen to body tissues for cellular respiration and remove carbon dioxide from body tissues for exhaling.

What is lung cancer?

Lung cancer is a malignant tumor that grows in the tissues of the lungs, leading to difficulty in breathing and other respiratory problems.

What is the importance of oxygen in respiration?

Oxygen is necessary for cellular respiration, which is the process by which cells produce energy to carry out their functions.

What are the types of respiration?

The types of respiration are aerobic respiration which requires oxygen and anaerobic respiration which occurs in the absence of oxygen.

What is the role of alveoli in respiration?

Alveoli are the air sacs in the lungs where exchange of gases between air and blood take place during respiration.
